EXCLUSIVE: London-based Alliance Media Partners (AMP) has acquired Simon Ross’ UK psychological thriller The Void for international sales, ahead of next month’s European Film Market (EFM).

The Void stars Virginia Gardner, Aneurin Barnard and Richard Brake. it is  in post-production after shooting in the UK’s Lake District, and in Georgia in Eastern Europe.

A decorated special forces soldier, haunted by a mission in Syria that left his entire squad dead, is suffering a compulsive urge to jump whenever he’s at a height. Invited to a remote lakeside lodge by his wife and closest friends for a healing retreat, he finds himself trapped in a psychological pressure cooker, and trust in those around him starts to fracture.

The UK producers are Lionel Hicks, whose credits include The Infernal Machine and Unholy Trinity, Freud’s Last Session producer Alla Belaya and Oliver Brown, with whom Ross previously collaborated on his feature debut The Portrait.

Steve Jaggi is on board as co-producer.

“This is a twisty tale of duplicity, built around the chilling prospect of being unable to stop yourself jumping into the gaping abyss,” said Anthony Buckner, AMP’s head of sales and acquisitions. “That’s what gives the film such a unique, unsettling edge.”

“The images we shot in this film are nerve-shredding,” added producer Hicks. “If, like me, you don’t like heights, you’ll want to cover your eyes - but the story is so intense, we think audiences won’t be able to look away.”
