EXCLUSIVE: Ukrainian film collective Tabor has revealed further details of the next two films in their documentary triptych, The Days I Would Like To Forget, about different aspects of life while Ukraine is at war.
Directed by Yelizaveta Smith, Alina Gorlova and Simon Mozgovy, the first film Militantropos is premiering in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. It pieces together everyday lives transformed by war.
The second film will be called Cosmomorphosi and will be about the connection between the war in Ukraine and the world outside; the third film is Palingenesion, named after the philosophical term “palingenesis”, and will focus on the concept of death in daily life for citizens who are at war.
The second film is expected to be ready by early 2026 and the third later in 2026. All three will be sold by Square Eyes.
The three films will be released separately, with a 90- minute TV cut encompassing material from all three films for ARTE which has supported the project through its Generation Ukraine initiative.
Miliantropos was produced by Tabor with Mischief Films and Les Valseurs Bordeaux. It has backing from the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films, the Sundance Institute, IDFA Bertha Fund and the Goteborg Film Fund, among others.
Tabor was founded by a group of Ukrainian filmmakers including Gorlova, Smith, Mozgovyi and Maksym Nakonechnyi. Its previous projects include Nakonechnyi’s drama Butterfly Vision which screened in Un Certain Regard in 2022, and documentaries Fragments Of Ice by Maria Stoianova and Nice Ladies by Mariia Ponomarova.
