‘Mavka. The True Myth’

EXCLUSIVE:  Ukrainian outfit Film.UA is reporting strong buyer interest in Katya Tsarik’s Mavka. The True Myth, the live-action spin-off from the hit animated movie, Mavka. The Forest Song.

The company has closed an all rights deal involving a theatrical release for the Czech Republic and Slovakia with AQS here at the EFM. This follows a pre-sale already negotiated for German-speaking territories, closed with Splendid Film 

The fantasy romance about a nymph of the forest lake is based on a national myth. Both the animated feature and the new live-action movie have been completed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion. 

Film.UA will release Mavka. The True Myth on March 1st in Ukraine.  Filmgoing has continued in the country despite the bombing and extensive power cuts in major cities. Most of the big cinema chains have generators. As the war continues, audiences are heading to cinemas to seek warmth and shelter while watching films.

Mavka. The Forest grossed over $20m at the global box office and was popular with Ukrainians living in exile.   versions.

An animated series based on the Mavka IP is in development. Further live-action sequels are being considered.

Also in the market, Film.UA has closed an all rights package deal for its horror line-up with Germany’s New Flesh Films, including the titles The Witch. Revenge, The Dam, and Morena.
