EXCLUSIVE: UK distributor-exhibitor Curzon has revamped its senior leadership team.
Louisa Dent is moving to a consultancy role at the company after serving as managing director of Curzon Film for almost 20 years, while Damian Spandley is leaving as managing director, programme and sales, at Curzon Cinemas, after 10 years.
Jake Garriock, director of publicity and distribution strategy, has been promoted to senior director of distribution, overseeing a team that now encompasses head of acquisitions Eleonora Pesci, head of publicity Kelly Powell and head of film sales Charlotte Saluard.
Susie Bould is promoted to senior director, marketing, digital & strategy. Christina Flourentzou becomes director of operations, with Katy Black becoming director of corporate sales.
Former Curzon Cinema managing director Alex Sheldon left the company in May after 10 years.
A Curzon statement says bringing the acquisitions, publicity and film sales teams together “is designed to facilitate Curzon’s increased focus on development, international sales and production and its ambition to expand the distribution business’s remit to include events and new media content.”
Bould’s promotion means in addition to overseeing the group’s marketing and digital functions, she will work across the business to deliver on Curzon’s strategic vision and future growth plans. Jessica Woodward, head of operations for Curzon Home Cinema, will now report to Bould.
Flourentzou now leads the company’s venue operations, having previously served as head of operations, while Black’s promotion reflects the growing value of corporate sales to Curzon, according to the company. The new flagship Curzon Chelsea venue, set to open later this year, is being designed to host events including red-carpet premieres and junkets, as well as hospitality experiences for private and corporate clients.
“This has been an opportunity to ensure the company is aligned and delivering on our long-term growth strategy and the development of Curzon into a lifestyle brand,” said Curzon chairman and CEO Philip Knatchbull. “Congratulations to those joining our leadership team. It is extremely satisfying to fill these senior roles from within the company and reward the development and hard work of our staff.
“With the opening of our new flagship venue, Curzon Chelsea, later this year and a slate of films that includes Pedro Almodóvar’s Bitter Christmas, Clio Barnard’s I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning and Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s All Of A Sudden, plus films like A Waiter In Paris and The Weir currently in production, it’s an incredibly exciting moment for the business.
“I would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank Alex, Damian and Louisa for their incredible service and expertise over the years.”
