UK YouTuber Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date is to screen its final series for one night only in cinemas across UK-Ireland, as well as Paris.
Ten cinemas are currently set to take part in the event release on November 24, in partnership with mk2’s YouTube Ciné-Club. The event will screen all six episodes in the final series, including the final unreleased episode before it lands on YouTube, plus exclusive new material. Chains taking part are Vue, Picturehouse and Curzon, with Paris’s mk2 Bibliothèque also hosting a screening.
Famous faces to feature in the most recent series include Oasis’ Noel Gallagher, Role Model and Jorja Smith.
It is the first time that YouTube series Chicken Shop Date has appeared on the big screen. The interview series began in 2014, with Dimoldenberg announcing last month that she is bringing it to an end. Stars to appear on the interview show have included Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Lawrence, Paul McCartney, Daniel Kaluuya, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson and Ben Stiller.
Dimoldenberg has also been the Oscars official social media ambassador and red carpet correspondent for the past three years.
“This film takes you on a journey through my decision to end the show, weaving together all of my final dates with moments in between as I try to say goodbye to Chicken Shop Date,” said Dimoldenberg in a post on Instagram.
“It’s a celebration of everything the show has meant to me, and one final chance to experience it together on the big screen.”
“For over a decade, Amelia has entertained millions with her brilliantly awkward interviews and signature deadpan humour in Chicken Shop Date,” said Johnny Carr, head of event cinema at Vue.
“What began as a fresh take on celebrity interviews has grown into a cultural phenomenon, building a passionate fanbase and creating countless must-watch moments… Following a year of box office success for films from YouTube creators, including The Amazing Digital Circus, Obsession, Iron Lung and Backrooms, this is another example of how the cinema experience continues to evolve, bringing online communities and digital-first talent into cinemas in exciting new ways.”
mk2 launched its Ciné-Club in 2023 to bring YouTubers, web series, documentaries, and digital creators onto cinema screens in France and Europe.
Venues currently taking part in the Chicken Shop Date finale are: Brighton’s Duke of York Picturehouse, London’s Picturehouse Central, London’s Curzon Soho, Vue Manchester Printworks, Vue Edinburgh Omnicentre, Vue Bristol Cribbs Causeway, Vue Birmingham M Star City, Vue Dublin (Liffey Valley), Vue London Westfield and Paris’s mk2 Bibliothèque.
