‘Tenzing’

The Zurich Film Festival has set Jennifer Peedom’s Everest drama Tenzing as its opening film on September 24.

The biopic recounts the story of Himalayan Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay who, alongside Edmund Hillary, became first to top Everest in 1953.

Zurich will mark the European premiere for Tenzing, with stars Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe due to attend alongside Peedom.

The Apple Original Film is understood to be world premiering at Telluride early next month, followed by its Canadian premiere at Toronto. After its Zurich premiere, the film will premiere in select theatres on October 9 and on Apple TV on October 16.

Peedom’s directing credits include the feature documentaries Solo, Sherpa, Mountain, River and Deeper.

Zurich Film Festival CEO Christian Jungen said: “This year’s ZFF motto is ‘dream big.’ Our breathtaking opening film Tenzing fits perfectly, because it shows how you can grow beyond yourself when you have a big dream.”
