Christopher Plummer, whosemyriad credits include A Beautiful Mind, The Sound Of Music and The Insider, will join Colin Farrell in Terrence Malick's upcoming epic The NewWorld for New Line.

Plummer will play CaptainChristopher Newport, an English officer who is among the first settlers in theNew World and who becomes president of the Jamestown Colony.

Equal parts historical epicand love story, The New World isset in the 17th century Virginia settlement against the backdrop of thediscovery of America.

Farrell will play the Englishexplorer John Smith, who falls in love with the young Indian princess Pocahontas and sets in motion a momentous course of history.

Sarah Green (Frida,Girlfight, State & Main) isserving as producer on the project, which is due to start filming in Virginiain July.

New Line Cinema productionpresident Toby Emmerich and New Line Productions executive vice president MarkOrdesky will oversee production.

Plummer's most recentcredits include Cold Creek Manor, Ararat and Nicholas Nickleby. Hewill next appear opposite Nicolas Cage in the upcoming adventure NationalTreasure and in Oliver Stone's Alexander.
