Swedish actress Linda Molin, of She Monkeys (Apflickorna) fame, will star in the new drama comedy by Swedish director Andreas Öhmann, whose feature debut Simple Simon (I rymden finns inga känslor) was a huge box office hit locally.

Bitch Hug (Bitchkram) went into production yesterday (July 11) with a cast also including Fanny Ketter, well-known from the SVT television series Vintergatan, and Mathilda von Essen, who most recently acted in the US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

”I am now doing something I have dreamt of, and very few get the chance of doing (read: my second feature) … it will be magic,” Öhman wrote on his blog. As with Simple Simon, Bitch Hug is scripted with Jonathan Sjöberg, and it will be co-produced by their company, Naive AB.

Öhman’s 2008 short, My Life as a Trailer (Mitt liv som trailer), won the Startsladden award at the Göteborg International Film Festival, and he used the $125,000 (SEK 800,000) cash and services coming with it to instigate his first feature.

In his second feature, he follows a bright and popular young student, Kristin, who looks forward to leave her small town for New York, the city of her dreams. She has agreed with the local daily newspaper that they will print the articles of her experiences.

The graduation party goes wrong, however, and she misses her flight. She ends up in a house in the middle of nowhere with a weird girl, Andrea; together they seek adventure on a virtual NY voyage which everybody can read about in the paper. Then reality knocks at the door.

Currently shooting on locations at Sundvall, Bitchkram is produced by Bonnie Skoog Feeney, of Filmlance International, with Sonet Film, Swedish public broadcaster SVT, Naive and AB and Dagsljus AB. Svensk Filmindustri will release the film in the spring 2012.
