Vancouver-based Anagram Pictures, production company behind zombie comedy Fido, is setting up global warming horror picture The Thaw for production in spring 2008.

Mark Lewis (Ill Fated) is attached to direct the screenplay he cowrote with Michael Lewis. Anagram's Mary Anne Waterhouse and Trent Carlson will produce with Rob Neilson. Maple Pictures is on board for Canadian distribution.

The story's apocalyptic premise is not pegged on rising water levels but the appearance of pre-ice age killer bugs released by the thawing of the polar ice caps. Budget is in the $8m-$10m range.

Also in the Anagram pipeline is Falling Awake, a sci-fi thriller set in a 24/7 world where sleep is no longer necessary. Scott Weber (Desolation Sound) is attached to direct a screenplay by David Jones. Mary Anne Waterhouse will produce. Budget is between $12-$14m. Canadian distribution is pending and the target shoot date is Autumn 2008.

The previously announced title Past Imperfect has been refashioned as Borderland. Carlson is directing based on the screenplay by Gerald Wexler from the book by John Matthews. Waterhouse and Anagram partner Blake Corbet will produce.

Meanwhile, Anagram partner and Fido director Andrew Currie is in pre-production on Space Invader, starring Will Arnett, for genre label Fox Atomic.
