Andrzej Bartkowiak has signed to direct the live action feature film of video game Street Fighter for Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Entertainment and games publisher Capcom Co Ltd.

The film based on Capcom's Street Fighter game property will begin production pre-strike in early 2008 in Asia and North America, and 20th Century Fox is handling domestic distribution.

Bartkowiak, also a celebrated cinematographer with credits including Speed, Falling Down and Lethal Weapon 4, has directed action films such as Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds and Cradle 2 The Grave.

Amritraj and Hyde Park senior executive Patrick Aiello will produce the film; Justin Marks wrote the script.

'Andrzej has all the qualities we are looking for to spring-board this widely popular video game that has enjoyed worldwide success and recreate it into an exciting four-quadrant action film for a mainstream audience using his highly-stylized techniques,' said Amritraj.

Hyde Park and Capcom formed a joint venture company to develop and produce a live action tent-pole film based on the Street Fighter franchise late last year. The film will focus on the game's most popular female fighter Chun Li and her heroic journey for justice.

Bartkowiak was repped in the deal by Nick Reed and Paul Hook at ICM.

Hyde Park's Death Sentence was recently released in North America by Fox. The company recently wrapped David Ellis' Asylum and has just greenlit Other End Of The Line starring Jesse Matcalfe for an October start in India.

Hyde Park has a five-year co-financing agreement with Fox and a second-look deal with Disney.
