Directors Juan Antonio Bayona and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will act as Godfathers to Cannes Critics’ Week for the 2009 edition.

Critics’ Week organizers announced the move onFriday saying the twoSpanish genre filmmakers will be honored at the 48th edition of the event.

Bayona most recently appeared in Critics’ Week in 2007 with his first feature, the international hit El Orfanato. Fresnadillo, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1997 for his short Esposados, opened Critics’ Week in 2002 with his first feature Intacto. Fresnadillo recently directed 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later.

The Critics’ Week lineup will be announced on April 24, one day after the official selection is unveiled.
