Black Swan leapt from fifth to first on the international stage after posting $19.4m, a 56% week-on-week improvement.
Fox’s thriller played on 3,041 screens in only 34 territories for an average of 6,383.
Playing in 30 more territories and almost 4,000 more screens than Black Swan, Sony’s The Green Hornet posted the week’s second best performance at $18m. The action-comedy crossed the $100m mark in the process.
In a competitive week at the head of the chart, last week’s top film Tangled dropped to third in its 12th week, grossing $17.1m for $310.3m.
Pathe’s instant hit Nothing To Declare (Rien A Declarer) posted another highly impressive weekend after taking $14.7m from only four territories. Dany Boon’s comedy blew away its opposition at the French box office once again, despite openings for Black Swan and TRON: Legacy and has now grossed $45.8m, $35.7m of that coming from France.
Dany Boon’s spectacular success Welcome To The Sticks went seven weeks at number one in 2008, bringing in a record 19 million admissions.
Paramount’s Oscar contender True Grit began its push up the chart, gaining 28 places to ninth after making $8.4m in 16 territories.
Five new entries were among the top 20 international titles, the highest of which was 12th-placed Paramount comedy No Strings Attached, which took $6.9m in 22 territories.
Between 14th and 17th Pathe’s 3D animation Gnomeo And Juliet took $5.3m, Zhang Yibai’s romance Eternal Moment made $5.3m, Sony romance-comedy Just Go With It, $5.3m, while Indian drama Patiala House took $5.1m in 16 territories.
