Submissions are now open for the second Puma/Britdoc Foundation award which recognises the documentary film which has created the most significant impact in the world today.

The jury for the 2012 Puma Creative Impact Award will consist of actors Danny Glover and Djimon Hounsou, director Mira Nair, writer and campaigner Jemima Khan and executive director of Greenpeace International, Kumi Naidoo.

Now in its second year, the award honours documentary films creating the most significant impact in the world today. It comes with a cash prize of 50,000 euros to help the film-makers with the film’s ongoing campaigning work.

The inaugural award in 2011 went to The End Of The Line, an environmental documentary on the overfishing of the world’s oceans. The jury was made up of Queen Noor of Jordan, Morgan Spurlock, Ford Foundation’s Orlando Bagwell, musician and activist Emmanuel Jal and Loretta Minghella OBE.

“Together we want to identify and honour the filmmakers having the biggest effect with their work and to inspire others the world over to use the power of storytelling to bring about lasting improvements to society and the planet,” said Jess Search, chief executive, Britdoc Foundation. “I can’t wait to see who this year’s outstanding nominees are going to be.”

The call for entries is now open with submissions closing on May 11. The award will be handed out in November at a ceremony in Berlin.
