Ellen Page, hot off her Oscar nomination for Juno, is set to take the title role in a new adaptation of Jane Eyre for BBC Films and Alison Owen's London-based Ruby Films.

'She put a whole different complexion on Jane Eyre,' Christine Langan at BBC Films told ScreenDaily.com.

The projects are out to directors now and other co-production partners are expected to come on board soon.

The 1847 classic by Charlotte Bronte is about an orphan girl who grows up to be a governess who finds troubled love for her employer Edward Rochester.

No other cast has been set yet.

Ruby and BBC Films recently teamed for another period adaptation, The Other Boleyn Girl.
