HanWay Films lines up A Single Shot with Michael Fassbender

Hot off his star turn in Inglourious Basterds, rising UK star Michael Fassbender has joined Forest Whitaker, William H Macy and Thomas Hayden Church on the thriller A Single Shot.

Director David Jacobson (Down In The Valley, Dahmer) will start filming in Ontario on January 11, 2010, on the story of a poacher whose family is threatened by gangsters after he discover a case of blood money.

HanWay Films is handling international sales here at AFM and co-represents North American rights with CAA, which arranged financing on the project with WME.

Writer Matthew F Jones adapted the screenplay from his novel of the same name. Chris Coen is producing for London-based Unanimous Pictures and formerly produced Deepwater from a Matthew F Jones book, as well as Wristcutters: A Love Story and Michael Haneke’s English-language remake of Funny Games.

Brad Arseneau is also producing and Kevin Hicks will serve as executive producer for Northern United Film and Media, who are financing A Single Shot.

“David Jacobson is a great talent and he has worked hard to secure such a formidable cast to this stylish thriller,” Coen said. “Michael Fassbender will surely deliver something special in this extraordinary role and I could not have dreamt of a more perfect cast to support him.”

HanWay’s current slate includes David Cronenberg’s The Talking Cure; Superstarring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Liv Tyler from producer Ted Hope; Jon Amiel’s Creation; Sam Taylor Wood’s Nowhere Boy; and Lone Sherfig’s An Education starring Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard.
