Finnish production company Oy Filmkompaniet and Bjork are collaborating on the 3D project Moomins And The Comet Chase based on the beloved Scandinavian animated characters.

NonStop Sales is introducing the film to EFM buyers and unveiling early footage from the project, in which the colourful trolls inspired by the late illustrator Tove Jansson’s books scramble to save themselves from a fast approaching meteor.

The film is currently in post-production and scheduled to open in theatres later this year.

Maria Lindberg is directing from a script by Joel Backstrom, Iivo baric, Anders Larsson and Minna Karvonen. Filmkompaniet CEO Tom Carpelan is producing what the film-makers claim to be the first Nordic stereoscopic 3D film.

Bjork and Andrzej Rokicki will provide original music and voice casting announcements will be made in the coming weeks.

Now in its 65th anniversary year, the Moomins property has been translated into more than 35 languages and crossed into television, opera, books, a theme park and even pasta products.

The theatrical release will be backed by the publication of brand new Moomins books in more than 20 countries through Macmillan, Penguin Books and other publishers.
