EXCLUSIVE: Terence Davies, Edwin, Puiu, Matthiesen to present upcoming productions.

New productions from Terence Davies, Edwin and Cristi Puiu, Mads Matthiesen will be among the 17 projects presented at this year’s edition of Paris Projects running June 30 to July 3.

“We received 400 projects, some 30% more than last year… we’ve tried to achieve a balance between established filmmakers and new talents,” commented Vanja Kaludjercic, who is head of Paris Projects for the second year.

The co-production forum, which unfolds within the framework of the Paris Cinema festival, aims to connect filmmakers from around the world with French producers and distributors.

Established directors due in Paris include Terence Davies biopic A Quiet Passion starring Cynthia Nixon as American poet Emily Dickinson and Romanian Croisette regular Cristi Puiu’s The Manor House an adaptation of Mikhail Soloviov’s Tales about the Antichrist, set against 18th century hunting party.

Danish Teddy Bear director Mads Matthiesen will present his Zentropa-produced Emma about a young Danish model trying to break into the Parisian catwalk scene who develops a deadly obsession for a fashion photographer.

Belgian Bavo Defurne – best known for gay romances such as North Sea Texas - will attend with Souvenir about a former Eurovision Song Contest singer who mulls staging a comeback.

Indonesian filmmaker Edwin will unveil Exotic Pictures, set against the backdrop of 1940s Indonesia during the Second World War and then during the independence struggle.  It revolves around a wealthy Dutch colonial couple who are sexually attracted to their local staff. Hong Kong producer Lorna Tee is producing.

Also from Aisa, Singaporean K Rajagopal will present A Yellow Bird about a man attempting to build a new life after eight years behind bars.

Continuing Paris Project’s ongoing relationship with the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), Hongbo Zhou’s Departure about a mortician and funeral traditions in China will attend.

Last year’s Hong Kong attendee Flora Lau’s Bends, which has just premiered in Un Certain Regard in Cannes, found French co-producer Love Streams agnès  b. Productions, at the event in 2012.

South African Jenna Bass’ Flatland is also in the line-up as a part of a new collaboration with the Duban Film Office and the Durban International Film Festival.

As part of that initiative, Paris Project will also organise South Africa workshop.

Newcomers at the event include Swiss Krisina Wagenbauer’s Eve, Jonas Matzow Gulbrandsen’s A Whale Hunt, Kosovar Blerta Zeqiri’s The Marriage

In other Paris Project news, the event also announced a new collaboration with the Guanajuato International Film Festival as well as new €20,000 post-production prize provided by the Belgian Charbon Studio.
