Magnolia has acquired US rights to Mark Pellington’s I Melt With You and IFC took North America on David Mackenzie’s Perfect Sense after Fox Searchlight claimed English-speaking territories on Mike Cahill’s sci-fi drama Another Earth in the small hours of Wednesday.

Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, Jeremy Piven, Christian McKay, Carla Gugino and Sasha Grey star in I Melt With You (pictured), which examines the aftermath of a wild trip undertaken by four friends.

Pellington, Norm Reiss and Rob Cowan produced and Aaron Gilbert, Heidi Levitt and Neil LaBute served as and executive producers. Magnolia svp Tom Quinn brokered the deal with Submarine’s Josh Braun and UTA’s Rena Ronson.

Perfect Sense closed after an all-night negotiating session closed with Arianna Bocco for IFC and Liesl Copland of WME Global on behalf of international rights holdersTrustNordisk and the filmmakers.

Searchlight’s deal on Another Earth marks its fourth acquisition of the festival after Homework, Martha Marcy May Marlene and remake rights to The Bengali Detective.

Cahill’s directorial debut sent buyers into a frenzy as soon as it premiered on Monday. Festival discovery Brit Marling, who co-wrote and produced Another Earth, plays a woman who enters a contest to visit a mirror planet in the hopes of redemption after she was responsible for the death of two people in a car accident.

Graham Taylor’s WME Global unit and Kevin Iwashina’s Preferred Content represented rights on behalf of the filmmakers.
