Kino Lorber has acquired US rights to Guy Maddin’s Berlin Forum opener The Forbidden Room following its recent world premiere in Sundance.

Phi Films, Buffalo Gal Pictures and the National Film Board Of Canada produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada and financial investment from Manitoba Film & Music and SODEC.

Co-directed by Maddin’s long-time collaborator Evan Johnson, The Forbidden Room involves the crew of a doomed submarine, a lost woodsman and vampire bananas.

Kino Lorber brokered the deal with Mongrel International and plans an autumn theatrical release.
