Metrodome dives into UK deal with BAC for Kormakur's The Deep

EXCLUSIVE: US and Australian buyers are circling the survival thriller.

Metrodome Group has acquired UK rights to Baltasar Kormakur’s survival drama The Deep, while BAC Films has taken French rights.

BAC is handling international sales while WME Global handles the US.

US and Australian buyers are also circling the project, while at least one US studio is pursuing remake rights.

The film world premiered here on Friday. It is based on the true story of a sailor who survived a shipwreck off the coast of Iceland against all odds. He went on to become an uncomfortable national hero, and scientists never determined how he could have survived swimming at sea in freezing temperatures for hours.

Icelandic director Kormakur directed Contraband (which topped the US box office earlier this year for Universal) and several days ago wrapped 2 Guns (sold by Foresight) starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.

For The Deep’s UK deal, Metrodome’s head of acquisitions Joel Kennedy negotiated with Mathieu Robinet of BAC.
