The winner from each group will be invited to attend an awards ceremony at BAFTA.
Uk charity Film Education is accepting submissions for its 2011 Young Film Critic Competition, the deadline for which has been extended to December 16.
The charity will judge film reviews from students in four age groups between the ages of 4 and 19. Reviews can be submitted in written, video, audio or Braille form, or hand-drawn by the 4-7 ages. The winner from each group will also be invited to attend an awards ceremony at central London’s BAFTA.
Last year’s winner, Katie Snow, was invited to broadcast her story on regional radio stations. Joining her on the show was film icon and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy star Gary Oldman. The experience has since inspired her to “pursue a career in critical journalism, and specifically within the film industry.”
Oldman praised the charity’s emphasis on literature and the arts as integral parts of filmmaking and film criticism. “I would have loved a programme like this at school,” said the British actor.
Supported by the UK Film Industry, Film Education encourages young students to actively participate in watching and analysing films through their interactive courses.
During its National Schools Film Week, Film Education also takes 450,000 students to free screening events to fully immerse them in the cinema-going experience.
