Fortissimo Films has bought international distribution rights (excluding Mexico and Spain) to the upcoming thriller Daniel & Ana from writer/director Michel Franco.
The deal was brokered between Fortissimo's executive vice president, international sales Nicole Mackey and producer Daniel Birman.
The Spanish language production will be available to buyers at this year's EFM through preview footage.
On making the announcement Mackey commented 'Fortissimo and I have worked with Daniel [Birman] as a distributor for many years; he has great taste and now we are delighted to be working with him as he produces Daniel & Ana - a contemporary Mexican story with a wow factor!'
Birman responded with, 'Fortissimo is the best home Daniel & Ana could find. Working with Wouter, Michael and Nicole over the years has been a great experience. I haven't been so excited about a movie since El Crimen Del Padre Amaro .expect the unexpected .again.'
The film, which is now in post-production stage, stars Gael Garcia Bernal's brother Dario Yazbek Bernal as Daniel, and Marimar Vega as Ana. They play a brother and sister who are kidnapped and must go through an experience that will change their lives forever.
