For once UK exhibitors won’t be hoping for rain as Odeon and Showcase will screen men’s final in 3D.

UK Odeon and Showcase cinemas will screen the men’s Wimbledon tennis final live on Sunday afternoon. Vue is among other cinema chains to have the event listed on its website.

Odeon will screen the event at 16 of its venues, including Odeon Covent Garden, Swiss Cottage and Wimbledon in London, Cardiff, Manchester (Printworks), Newcastle East and Belfast.

Exhibitors will be hoping British semi-finalist Andy Murray can become the first British male finalist at the tournament since 1938. And for once, they will also hope it stays rain-free for a few hours.

“It’s the next best thing to being there in-person,” said Drew Kaza, evp of digital development for Odeon Cinemas. “In fact, it might be better than being there live…it’s a fantastic opportunity to get one of the best perspectives possible and as close to the nail biting action as the ball boy or girl or back judge on court. The scale of the action on the big screen is not to be missed - the ball seems to jump off the screen at times and it gives you a new appreciation for how tremendously gifted these players truly are.”
