Director Stephen Cookson is currently shooting family feature Halo Boy in London for CKM Entertainments.

Joseph Phillips, a 16-year-old actor who played Michael in London's stage version of Billy Eliot, has taken the lead role in Halo Boy.

Cookson says of his star: ''I was looking for not only someone who is very natural in front of the camera, but has the maturity to work through our intensive shooting schedule'.

The cast also features Timothy Spall, Brenda Blethyn, Mel Smith, Janet Dibley and Celia Imrie.

Cookson wrote the story, about a 15-year-old boy whose mother is involved in a serious car accident. In the run up to Christmas, the boy has a dream that his mother needs an angel's halo to be saved.

The film will also do its post-production in London this summer, with an aim for a November 2009 release.

Executive producers are Peter Keegan, Jon Myers and Geoff Barnett.

Cookson also recently directed feature Journey To The Moon.
