Fledgling New York distributor Trela Media has made its first acquisition, taking North American rights from Filmlike Films to Paul H-O and Tom Donahue's documentary Guest Of Cindy Sherman.

Trela Media president Christopher Trela, a former media consultant and producer who co-founded the production label Pioneer Pictures, said the company planned to acquire and release four to six US and international narrative and documentary pictures a year.

Guest Of Cindy Sherman will debut this spring and follows arts scene commentator Paul Hasegawa-Overacker's relationship with enigmatic photographer Cindy Sherman. Robert Angel negotiated the deal on behalf of Trela Media. The picture got its festival premiere at Tribeca in April 2008.

'I have seen several high-quality films, including Guest Of Cindy Sherman, play well in film festivals and still not find theatrical distribution,' Trela said. 'Trela Media hopes to close that gap and help new and established film-makers connect to their audiences outside of the festival environment.'
