StudioCanal has sold all Japanese rights on horror hit The Last Exorcism to Comstock Group.

The deal, for an undisclosed advance and p&a commitment, was clinched after StudioCanal organised a screening of the film last week in Tokyo.

StudioCanal fully financed the film which became a summer hit with a haul of $41m at the North American box office and opened at number one in several other territories including the UK. It will soon open in Australia, Spain, Italy and Korea. Comstock plans to release the film in the first half of 2011.

“If you know how hard it is to sell foreign horror to Japan, this deal really is a tribute to how original and powerful Last Exorcism is,” said StudioCanal head of international sales Harold van Lier.
