Seeking to expand its global footprint, IMAX Corporation has hired Anthony Vogels to the new position of vice-president of international film development.

Based in Los Angeles, Vogels will among other things be responsible for exploring local language production and assisting in distribution and marketing services through close co-operation with IMAX’s film operations, marketing and distribution groups.

He will report directly to IMAX Filmed Entertainment chairman and president Greg Foster and will work closely with senior vice-president of film distribution Phil Groves.

“The international IMAX network is expanding at a rapid pace and this new position will enable us to help maximise the effectiveness and reach of our international film business,” IMAX CEO Richard L Gelfond said.

“Anthony’s knowledge and operational experience in the international film markets will be a key asset for us given our growing international presence,” Foster said. “His ‘can do’ attitude is exactly what we’re looking for and we are officially welcoming him into the IMAX family.”

Vogels spent 15 years in distribution at United International Pictures (UIP) where he served in various senior management posts in the Pacific Rim region. Prior to UPI he spent seven years at Village Roadshow.
