uConnect and Celluloid Dreams strike partnership
uConnect, the sales arm of Belgian powerhouse uMedia, has struck a multi-film partnership with French sales outfit Celluloid Dreams ahead of the European Film Market.
Under the terms of the deal, uConnect will assume joint responsibility with Celluloid Dreams for the sales of Celluloid’s current slate. The two companies will operate in the same airspace at Berlin.
The deal involves a number of hot Berlinale titles, among them Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha [pictured], screening in the Panorama section; Catriona McKenzie’s Satellite Boy screening in Generation, which was nominated for the Discovery Award and the FIPRESCI International Critics’ Award at Toronto; Takeshi Kitano’s gangster pic Outrage Beyond, Daniel Algrant’s Greetings From Tim Buckley, Craig Zahler’s Bone Tomahawk, Heitor Dahlia’s Bald Mountain and Daniele Luchetti’s comedy Mythological Story Of My Family.
Along with Giuseppe Tornatore’s English-language feature The Best Offer starring Geoffrey Rush, Sylvia Hoeks, Jim Sturgess and Donald Sutherland, which is screening as a Special Gala at Berlin, uConnect is also handling competition film Closed Curtain from Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, and director/writer David Roach’s Red Obsession, which screens in the Culinary section.
“It has been our intention from the start to represent a wide range of films and entering into this multi film partnership with Celluloid Dreams will position us across all genres,” said uConnect’s Peter Rogers. “Hengameh has unparalleled relationships with so many talented filmmakers.”
Hengameh Panahi of Celluloid Dreams added: “This unique deal enables us to widen our net and join forces with Peter and his team who understand our taste and approach to film sales across this wonderfully exciting slate.”
Celluloid Dreams, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is known as the Directors Label.
