Mark Waters will direct the first in an anticipated franchise based on the Vampire Academy young adult books [pictured]. Reliance and IM Global jointly finance the project and Stuart Ford and Jonathan Deckter will kick off sales in Berlin this week.

Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films produce the fantasy adventure with Michael Preger alongside Deepak Nayar of Kintop Pictures, the company with whom Reliance and IM Global are collaborating on the upcoming release Walking With Dinosaurs. IM Global CEO Ford will serve as executive producer.

Production is scheduled to commence in early summer. The director’s brother Dan Waters adapted Richelle Mead’s book Blood Sisters, about friends at a school for vampires who fight to protect an ancient bloodline.

Zoey Deutch from next week’s US release Beautiful Creatures and Australian newcomer Lucy Fry will play the leads alongside Russia’s Danila Kozlovski.

Miami-based Preger optioned the books and brought the property to Murphy and Montford who in turn presented it to Kintop and Reliance.
