Blasphemous
Luke Piotrowski directs Karen Gillan, Josh Hutcherson and Clive Owen in the supernatural thriller about a rookie exorcist and his devout mentor who are tasked with transporting the body of a possessed woman to a secure location for an exorcism when she breaks out. Badlands, Thunder Road, Seven Bucks Productions, and Red Riot Pictures are producing and have scheduled an August start in New York. North.Five.Six and CAA Media Finance co-rep international rights.

A Body In The Woods
Emma Roberts (Scream 4, American Horror Story) will play a woman at the turn of the century who keeps vigil over a dead miner’s body and starts to suspect the corpse may not be at rest, while a silent woman appears at the edge of the haunted forest where she lives. The first sales project from Manifest Pictures is being financed by C2 and production is scheduled to begin in September. Stephen Cognetti directs.

Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, India Amarteifio, Ayo Edebiri and Toheeb Jimoh star for twin filmmakers Arie and Chuko Esiri in the Nigeria-set modern retelling of Virginia Woolf novel Mrs Dalloway. Neon will release theatrically in the US.

Cupid
Tate Taylor (The Help) will direct Catherine Zeta-Jones as a seemingly helpful yet unorthodox marriage counsellor who invites a couple to her home. The pair’s sense of hope begins to erode as her methods prove cruel and dangerous. Carey and Shane Van Dyke co-wrote the screenplay and production is scheduled for a late summer or early autumn start in Natchez, Mississippi. CAA Media Finance represents US rights.

Death Has No Master
Venezuelan director Jorge Thielen Armand’s thriller stars Asia Argento as a woman who heads to Venezuela to sell her late father’s cacao plantation, only to find the family mansion occupied by its former workers, whereupon a dangerous game of manipulation unfolds. Armand produced through his Canadian-Venezuelan company La Faena alongside Italy’s Volos Films Italia and Luxembourg’s Deal Productions, with support from Telefilm Canada, Film Fund Luxembourg, and the Guggenheim Foundation, among others.

Doctor Caligari’s Cabinet Of Wonders
Michael Shannon stars in a contemporary take on the classic, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, considered by some as the first true horror movie. John Erick Dowdle directs. CAA Media Finance will co-rep North American rights.

The Exiles
Sam Worthington, David Duchovny, and Ke-Xi Wu will star in the thriller from Midi Z, inspired by true events about a desperate Westerner’s pursuit of greener pastures in Asia, where greed, rivalry and ego ultimately spiral into murder. Principal photography has begun in Taipei, Taiwan. Anita Gou, Tom Heller, Claudia Tseng, and Midi Z serve as producers, while Killer Films’ Christine Vachon, Gabi Meyers, and Wu are as executive producers.

Justine Triet follows up Anatomy Of A Fall with another psychological thriller. Mia Goth, Andrew Scott, Frank Dillane and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett are among the cast. Studiocanal co-financed and co-produced the feature and has distribution in several key territories.

César-nominated Marina Ziolkowski’s feature debut about the Roman Polanski scandal and based on the memoir about the then-teenager at the centre of it, Samantha Geimer. Dree Hemingway, Gore Abrams and Carolyn Kachen star.

A Head Full Of Ghosts
David Harbour, Rebecca Hall, and Esmé Creed-Miles are in talks to star in the story about a teenage girl’s descent into madness that becomes the subject of a reality show, and the efforts of her sister 15 years later to uncover what happened. Goodnight Mommy co-directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala helm the adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s novel.

Elizabeth Chomko directs Javier Bardem and Oscar-nominated Song Sung Blue star Kate Hudson in a romantic comedy described as being in the vein of films like Sleepless In Seattle and When Harry Met Sally. The feature charts the feisty transatlantic relationship between a landscape architect and a crisis-ridden bestselling novelist who initially meet in Paris.

Rachel Rose’s feature debut stars Alicia Vikander and Wagna Moura. It is inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and takes place across a single summer day in New York. The film is in post and is produced by for Killer Films alongside David Kaplan, Lucie Elwes and Rose.

Adrian Chiarella’s Sundance hit and queer horror stars Joe Bird, Stacy Clausen and Mia Wasikowska and follows two teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most – each other. Neon will distribute in the US later this year.

Paul Schrader returns with an erotic thriller about two privileged brothers whose fight for control of the family fortune intensifies when one embarks on an affair, igniting a volatile love triangle. Liam Hemsworth, Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Pidgeon, and Dianne Wiest will star and production is scheduled to begin this spring in New York.

Jaume Collett-Serra is in post on the Second World War thriller about an Allied soldier who, following an ambush, must pretend to be dead in order to survive the night surrounded by Nazis. Noah Jupe from Hamnet and Matthias Schweighöfer from Army Of The Dead star, and Natalie Conway and Peter Stanley-Ward co-wrote the script. Nocturnal Entertainment, Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, BoulderLight Pictures, and Bad Grey are producing and Nocturnal Entertainment is fully financing.

Sweat
Ana de Armas will star in the psychological thriller as a fitness influencer who, after a bad encounter with her idol, is forced into a dangerous arrangement with an obsessive fan that tests her desire for fame. AGC Studios will finance and co-produce the project, with Rosto Inc. and Crimple Beck, based on Magnus von Horn’s Polish 2020 Cannes Label selection of the same name. Production is scheduled to begin on March 30 in Los Angeles and the UK. WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and AGC jointly represent US rights.

This Is Pleasure
Jessica Chastain and Chris Pine star in the story of a woman who must decide what to do when her closest friend, a publisher, is accused of misconduct. Shari Springer Berman and Rubert Pulcini, who garnered an adapted screenplay Oscar nod in 2004 for American Splendor, direct from Nina Raine’s screenplay adapted from the #MeToo novella by Mary Gaitskill. The Fremantle production is being produced by Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films alongside Chastain’s Freckle Films and Pine’s Barry Linen Motion Pictures. CAA Media Finance represents US sales.

Colman Domingo is lining up to star in and direct the Nat King Cole biopic charting the legendary singer’s career and battles against racial injustice. Domingo wrote the screenplay and the project is being prepared for a production start later this year. Producers include Cassian Elwes and Macro founder Charles D. King.

Wildwood
Travis Knight directs the animated epic fantasy based on Colin Meloy’s 2011 novel about a headstrong teenager and her unlikely companion who set out to rescue her baby brother from an enchanted forest. Laika and Fathom Entertainment are partnering on the US theatrical release on October 23, and the stellar voice cast features Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, and Richard E. Grant.
