Heading into Toronto, Magnolia Pictures has promoted Peter Van Steemburg to vp of acquisitions and John Von Thaden to director of acquisitions.

Steemburg and Von Thaden previously served as acquisitions director and manager, respectively.

“In this occasionally unwieldy corner of the business, Peter and John truly help me sleep at night with an almost preternatural instinct for Magnolia’s unique interests backed up by stellar work ethics,” said svp of acquisitions Dori Begley. “I am incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to their continued success with the company.” 

Van Steemburg joined Magnolia Pictures / Magnet Releasing in 2008 and prior to that held international sales positions at Miramax and the film finance department at Cinetic Media.

Von Thaden joined in 2011 following posts in New York and Los Angeles including IFC Films and New Line Cinema.
