Buys include Of Gods And Men, Certified Copy, Love Like Poison, We Are What We Are.

UK distributor Artificial Eye has snapped up four of the most feted titles from official selection in this year’s Cannes Festival.

One of the pick-ups is Xavier Beauvois’ Of Gods And Men (Des Hommes et Des Dieux), inspired by the true events surrounding the kidnap and murder of monks by extremist terrorists in Algeria in 1996. The film won the Grand Prix du Jury award this year.

Also acquired is Certified Copy (Copie Conforme) by Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami. Juliette Binoche’s  performance won her the Best Actress award at this year’s festival.

Meanwhile, Artificial Eye has also swallowed the debut feature from Katell Quillévéré, Love Like Poison, a coming of age story of a young girl and the family relationships around her.

Rounding off Artificial Eye’s new pick-ups is Jorge Michel Grau’s We Are What We Are (Somos Lo Que Hay), which follows the dynamics of a family of cannibals when the father, the main flesh-winner, dies.

“We are delighted with our acquisitions from this year’s Cannes and to be working with some of contemporary cinema’s most talented directors. These films will be great additions to our already exciting line up for the remainder of this year and for 2011,” commented Artificial Eye MD Louisa Dent.
