Manchester will host this year’s Abandon Normal Devices Festival of new cinema and digital culture, which will feature new commissions from internationally renowned artists, filmmakers and cultural provocateurs.

The seven-day festival will present film screenings, premieres and exhibitions across venues and public spaces and will include the UK premiere of Gillian Wearing’s first feature length film Self Made.

The 2010 edition of AND will also feature a special collaboration and exhibition with artist Phil Collins, human vacuum packing from controversial artist Laurence Malstaff and a gallery based exhibition of work from artists and filmmakers titled UnSpooling: Artists & Cinema, which explores the materiality of film and the history of cinema.

The event will run from October 1-7 and will also offer a programme with AND Salons, workshops, screenings and performances.

AND is a Northwest-based festival held in alternate cities every year. Last year it was held in Liverpool and featured more than 15 new commissions, over 25 film screenings, 6 premieres and over 10 exhibitions across more than 14 of Liverpool’s arts venues and public spaces.
