EXCLUSIVE: J & JJ International has closed a raft of deals on Jackie Chan’s upcoming action title, Police Story 2013, which the star produced with China’s Wanda Media.
The $30m film has gone to Japan (Happinet), India (Indo Overseas), Singapore (Clover Films/Golden Village), Turkey (Tanweer Films) and Middle East, Greece and Cyprus (Italia Film).
It has also sold out across South-East Asia with sales to Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos (Sahamongkolfilm), Malaysia and Brunei (Ram Entertainment) Indonesia (PT Prima Cinema Multimedia), Philippines (Suraya Filem) and Vietnam (Galaxy Films). Hong Kong-based Celestial Tiger has taken pay-TV rights for Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.
The film is a highly-anticipated reboot of Chan’s hit Police Story series, which kicked off in 1985 and spawned serveral sequels. In the new film, Chan stars as a police officer who is taken hostage with his daughter and a group of strangers by a bar owner demanding the release of a long-time prisoner. Liu Ye (The Last Supper) plays the bar owner and Chinese actress Jing Tian also stars.
Ding Sheng, who directed Chan in Little Big Soldier, has written and directed Police Story 2013, which wrapped in February and is being readied for a December release. Chan’s Jackie & JJ Productions produced with Wanda Media and Starlit HK Int’l Media Co.
Chan’s last film Chinese Zodiac (aka CZ12) has grossed more than $185m across Asia since its release last December.
