Boulevard Entertainment, the UK DVD distributor, has branched out into the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format, used for PlayStation Portable, and signed an exclusive three-year UK deal for UMD releases for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The deal covers new and library titles from Fox, Pathe and MGM. New releases can be offered on UMD 12 weeks after their DVD launch.

Boulevard will offer 40 films under the new deal by the end of November, including the X-Men, Alien and Rocky franchises, 28 Days Later, Robocop and Terminator. The UMD releases will retail for $12 (£5.99).

'Our business is currently strategically focused on the DVD and Blu-ray formats,' said Fox home entertainment managing director Steven Leighton. 'Boulevard has the extra resource available to further drive the potential of our titles on the UMD format and they are committed to investing in our products and bringing to market some of Fox's more recent releases.'

Boulevard said that the UK has 4m PSP owners. MD Sandy Davidson said: 'We feel strongly that our innovative and commercial approach will deliver value throughout the sector allied to fresh and exciting product for the consumer.'

Boulevard's DVD library already boasts 1,500 titles and the company is adding more UMD partners in the coming days.
