Shooting has begun for the first film on the slate of new production company Warp X. British thriller Donkey Punch will also be the debut feature for co-writers Olly Blackburn and David Bloom, with Blackburn making his feature directorial debut.

Warp X is the new digital low-budget feature film scheme backed by the UK Film Council, Film4, Screen Yorkshire, EM Media and Optimum Releasing.

The film is to be produced by Angus Lamont (Late Night Shopping), Mark Herbert (This Is England) and Robin Gutch (Touching The Void). It will star emerging actors Jaime Winstone (Kidulthood), Tom Burke (I Want Candy), Nichola Burley (Love+Hate) and Julian Morris (Cry Wolf).

The plot follows a hedonistic weekend in Spain on a luxury yacht. The party games between the boys and the girls go awry, leading to an accidental death that turns the fun into a frantic fight for survival.

The project will shoot for four weeks on location in Cape Town, with the backing of partners Do Productions.

International sales will be handled by Lumina Film, with Optimum already taking UK theatrical and DVD rights and Channel 4 taking UK TV rights.

Warp X plans to make a total of seven films in the next two years.
