Universal’s female comedy directed by Elizabeth Banks stormed to the top of the North American charts as Mad Max: Fury Road arrived in second place.

Overall box office climbed on last week by 44.8% and gained 4.3% against the comparable session in 2014.

Warner Bros’ Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult arrived in second place on $44.4m. 

Focus expanded Far From The Madding Crowd from 190 theatres to 289 in its third weekend the film climbed five places to number ten, adding $1.3m for $2.6m.

This week’s releases are Buena Vista’s Tomorrowland starring Britt Robertson and George Clooney and Fox’s Poltergiest with Sam Rockwell.
