Alliance Films and New Line Cinema have extended their output deal into 2009. The extension, rumoured over past weeks, will add at least eight titles to Alliance's Canadian releasing schedule, including the much-anticipated The Time Traveller's Wife from director Robert Schwentke and starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana as well as Seventeen Again, Burr Steers' comic pairing of Zac Efron and Matthew Perry.
Alliance also made official its output arrangements with Relativity Media, Grosvenor Park and Freestyle Releasing. The company expects the new deals to cement its position among the top distributors in Canada. No one from Alliance was immediately available to comment on the change of heart at New Line's parent company, Time Warner. In February, Time Warner announced its intention to bring New Line's international distribution activities into the orbit of Warner Bros.
The Relativity deal will bring two high-profile titles, Jim Sheridan's Brothers starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire and Sam Shepard, and David Twohy's A Perfect Getaway, with Milla Jovovich, Timothy Olyphant and Steve Zahn.
Grosvenor Park supplied the just-released title Disaster Movie and recently financed Ed Zwick's upcoming Defiance starring Daniel Craig, while Freestyle provided the wine business comedy Bottle Shock. Freestyle's upcoming slate includes The Haunting Of Molly Hartley from director Mickey Liddell with Chace Crawford and Shannon Marie Woodward and Marc Adler's animated feature Delgo voiced by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddy Prinze Jr. and Val Kilmer.
Alliance currently has output arrangements with Focus Features, The Weinstein Company, Overture Films, and Remstar. Today's wide-ranging announcement included the appointment of Alison Cornwell as chief financial officer. A former executive at Walt Disney TV International and Sparrowhawk Media Group, she will be based in London. Patrick Roy was recently promoted to CEO of Alliance Vivafilm, the distributor's Quebec arm.
