Sony’s Spider-Man Brand New Day and Universal’s The Odyssey continued to dominate the box office in the UK and Ireland as both titles passed £60m.
Brand New Day topped the charts in its second weekend with £12m, a 49% drop. The fourth entry in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man run is up to £65m and is already the highest-grossing film of 2026.
The film has also passed the £58m of Deadpool & Wolverine to become the fourth highest-grossing title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will likely pass the £70.8m achieved by Avengers: Infinity War within the next week, leaving only Avengers: Endgame (£88.7m) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (£96.4m) in its path.
In second place, The Odyssey dropped just 23% to bring in £5.3m in its fourth session for Universal. Christopher Nolan’s epic sailed past the £60m mark with a £61.5m cume so far, passing Oppenheimer (£59.8m), Dunkirk (£56.8m) and The Dark Knight Rises (£56.5m) to become the director’s highest-grossing film in the territory.
The only new entry in the top five this week was Paramount’s Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie which opened on £1.1m. The animated threequel, based on the popular TV series, follows on from 2023’s The Mighty Movie and 2021’s The Movie, both of which debuted on £1.1m.
Disney’s Toy Story 5 also had a comfortable dip of only 31% in its eighth weekend, adding £728,000 to its sum. The Pixar animation is now up to £54m, surpassing Disney stablemate Frozen II (£53.5m) and will soon overtake the £55m of Super Mario Bros: The Movie.
In fifth place, Universal’s Minions & Monsters also dropped just 31%, bringing in £539,000 on its sixth session.
Ice Cream Man finds little flavour
André Rieu’s 2026 Summer Concert: Viva Maastricht! opened with £477,000 for Piece Of Magic. That is just below the Dutch violinist’s last event release, Andre Rieu’s 2025 Maastricht Concert: Waltz The Night Away, which grossed £562,000 in its opening weekend.
Disney’s Moana dipped 36% in its sixth week with £464,000 and is just shy of a £12m cume.

Studiocanal horror Ice Cream Man debuted with £241,000 from 409 venues, for a £589 location average. The Eli Roth-directed feature has a total of £308,000 including previews.
Olivia Wilde’s The Invite added £142,000 on its sixth weekend for Black Bear with a 26% drop. The comedy drama has a total of £3.8m.
Curry Barker’s horror Obsession is up to £19.6m after adding £93,000 on its 13th session for Universal.
Trafalgar Releasing’s concert release Ateez: Light The Way in opened on £64,000, including previews.
Warner Bros re-released the 1998 romantic fantasy Practical Magic in preparation for its upcoming sequel, with the Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman starrer grossing £62,000.
Conic Film opened Glenn Close drama The Summer Book on £37,000. Charlie McDowell’s film, about a young girl’s summer with her grandmother, has a total of £40,000 including previews.
Disney’s limited release of the US comedy Super Troopers 3 debuted with £32,000.
Park Circus’ re-release of the 2006 animation Flushed Away grossed £23,000.
The 10th anniversary re-release of Taika Waititi’s Hunt For The Wilderpeople debuted with £14,000 via Vertigo, with a total of £27,000 including previews.
Event release Grateful Dead Meet-Up At The Movies grossed £4,812 from nine cinemas on Saturday (August 8) for Trafalgar Releasing.
Computer animated title Bouchra opened with £3,128 for Tape Collective.
