Principal photography has begun in Sydney on Candy,the big screen debut of theatre director Neil Armfield which stars HeathLedger, Abbie Cornish and Geoffrey Rush.

Based on Luke Davies' best seller of the same name, Candyis described by director and co-writerArmfield as "a convention-defying romantic tragedy that is at once inspiringand heartbreaking."

Candy is produced by Margaret Fink and Emile Sherman. It is executiveproduced by Richard Payten and Andrew Mackie of Dendy Films, and Angus Finneyof Renaissance Films. Financing has come from the FFC, the New South Wales Filmand Television Office, Paradigm Hyde Films and Renaissance Films

International sales arebeing handled by Renaissance Films. Territoriessold to date include the Netherlands (A-Film), Belgium (Cineart), Scandinavia(Smile), Portugal (LNK), Spain (Lauren), Greece (Odeon), Middle East (Phars),CIS (Central Partnership), Brazil (California Films).

Candy will be released inAustralia by Dendy Films in early 2006.
