Well-known industry veteran Chris Paton has joined Amsterdam/Hong Kong-based Fortissimo Films as Senior Vice President, Acquisitions & Development with immediate effect.

Paton, the former Vice Chairman of DDA Public Relations, will be based in London and work on centralising Fortissimo's international team to source new product, continue the development of current projects and look for new production opportunities.

Fortissimo is a long-term client of DDA, and Paton first started working with the company there. Said Fortissimo co-chairs Wouter Barendrecht and Michael Werner: 'Our relationship with Chris goes back many years and he has a deep understanding of our company, our films, our fim-makers and our goals.'

Barendrecht added that the appointment comes at a time when the company is looking 'for a different kind of mix in our film and library line-up' with the international specialty film business currently 'under stress'.

'Chris's experience in working with studio level producers and film-makers will give us a different access and perspective as we look to capitalize on the opportunities ahead,' he concluded.

Paton previously set up the UK arm of Falco Ink which was acquired by London-based agency Premier PR in 2001. He started his career at TriStar Pictures in New York.

He joins the sales agency as it goes into Berlin with four titles in official selection (Food Inc, Unmistaken Child, Miao Miao and Every Little Step).
