Attack The Block, Bridesmaids, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2, Jack Goes Boating among films screening at Film Distributors Association event in London

The Film Distibutors’ Association’s (FDA) second Cinema Showcase – an opportunity for regional UK journalists to preview major titles - will screen 13 films at the Empire Leicester Square between May 4-6.

The event, a successor to the FDA’s popular Cinema Days, which ran for 20 years, is attracting more than 100 regional journalists.

Among the preview screenings are Optimum’s Attack The Block, Trinity’s Jack Goes Boating, Universal’s Bridesmaids, Fox’s Win Win and Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2, Momentum’s Troll Hunter and Scott Free’s Life In A Day. Hairdresser Vidal Sassoon will introduce clips of Vidal Sassoon: The Movie, followed by a Q&A session.

There will be press conferences for Attack The Block, attended by director Joe Cornish and cast, Jack Goes Boating, attended by Philip Seymour Hoffman, The Messenger, attended by Samantha Morton, and Fire In Babylon, with a conference attended by director Stevan Riley and producers John Battsek and Charles Steel.

The event will also feature a preview of a teaching trailers schools resource, launching in UK schools in June, a blogging workshop and a briefing from Stuart Williams, MD, Live Events & Strategic Partnerships, Bauer Media, on the Big Screen event at the O2 in August.

Speaking about the event, which is due to run biannually, FDA chief executive Mark Batey told Screen: “The reality is that the box office outside the M25 area was north of £700m and frequency of cinemagoing in UK is highest in Scotland. However, the logistics of running regional press shows all over the UK are very difficult. Events like this provide a full service programme to journalists based out of London. We think the combined readership of the delegates attending will be about 4m.”

The next Cinema Showcase event is due to run Nov 30-Dec 2 at the same venue.
