Avatar has broken the last of Titanic’s major box office milestones as it became the highest grossing North American release in history on Tuesday [February 2].
Fox and James Cameron’s sci-fi spectacular stood at $601.1m by the close of Tuesday, surpassing Titanic’s 12-year record of $600.8m.
As previously reported here, Avatar is the highest grossing international and global release on $1.479bn and $2.079bn and counting, respectively.
Fox International’s Avatar will ease part the $1.5bn mark this weekend as executives expect an eighth consecutive weekend at the top.
