The studio has set a Friday The 13th release for the horror film, which it acquired from MGM earlier this year. Lionsgate will release in North America and the UK and is selling remaining territories.

Genre ace Joss Whedon (pictured), the Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator who directs the 2012 summer tentpole The Avengers, co-wrote the screenplay with Drew Goddard, who makes his directorial debut.

Thor star Chris Hemsworth leads the cast as a young professional who rents a cabin with friends and uncovers an unimaginable terror.

Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Brian J White, Amy Acker, Fran Kranz and Jesse Williams round out the key cast.

Whedon also produced The Cabin In The Woods, which he described in a modest statement as “the horror movie to end all horror movies.”

Lionsgate’s Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan and Wendy Jaffe negotiated for the studio.
