Fandango Portobello handles sales on the Polish drama.
Memento Films has acquired rights for France, French-speaking Africa and former French territories for Pawel Pawlikowski’s Ida, sold by Fandango Portobello.
Set in 1962 Communist Poland, the film is about a young woman (Agata Trzebuchowska) who discovers her Jewish heritage before she takes vows as a Catholic nun.
Ida played at Telluride and premieres in Toronto on Saturday in Special Presentations.
The film also screens at the BFI London Film Festival in October.
Memento’s Alexandre Mallet-Guy said of the acquisition, “Not only are we so proud to bring such a beautiful, powerful film to audiences, we are thrilled to work with Pawel, whose work we have admired for years.”
