Strand has acquired US rights to Schleinzer’s Cannes premiere Michael from Les Films du Losange ahead of its North American premiere.

The drama will open in February 2012 and focuses on the last five months of a ten-year-old boy’s life under the control of a man who keeps him locked in a basement. Strand’s Jon Gerrans and Les Films du Losange’s Agathe Valentin negotiated the deal. 

Michael has sold to more than 14 European territories including Artificial Eye in UK, Wild Bunch in Benelux, Fidalgo in Norway, Filmcoopi in Switzerland. Films du Losange will release the film in France on Nov 2.

Meanwhile Film Movement has picked up North American rights to Fernando León De Aranoa’s Spanish drama Amador.

Peruvian actress Magaly Solier, known for Sundance 2006 entry Madeinusa and who will also be seen in Blackthorn, stars as a young immigrant living in Spain who faces a life-changing moral crisis. Amador will go out in limited release in 2012.
