A host of films from Hong Kong are lining up at AFM, including Pang Ho Cheung’s return home, Soi Cheang’s sci-fi action thriller and Tsui Hark’s hotly tipped 3D spy movie. Sarah Cooper reports

Leading Hong Kong film-maker Pang Ho Cheung returns home from Beijing for this widely acclaimed drama revolving around the members of an extended family starring Louis Koo, Eric Tsang, Miriam Yeung and Gigi Leung. Produced by Pang’s Making Film Productions, the film - which opened Hong Kong International Film Festival - is co-produced by Sun Entertainment, Sil-Metropole Organization and Huayi Brothers.

Little Big Master

Dir Adrian Kwan

Miriam Yeung and Louis Koo star in this drama, based on a true story, about a teacher who works for a token salary in an attempt to keep a kindergarten from closing. Benny Chan is producing for Universe Entertainment and the film is in post-production.

Unforgotten (working title)

Dir Soi Cheang

Following his success with Chinese New Year hit The Monkey King, Hong Kong film-maker Soi Cheang is turning his hand to a sci-fi action thriller with this $18m production for Mei Ah Entertainment revolving around two police officers who read victims’ memories to reveal details of the suspects. The film will start shooting early next year after the director wraps The Monkey King 2.

SPL2 - A Time For Consequences

The prequel to the 2005 film SPL: Sha Po Lang is a $23m action thriller featuring Tony Jaa alongside Wu Jing and Simon Yam. Currently in production, the story follows a Hong Kong cop trying to save his daughter’s life. Fusing Chinese and Thai martial arts, it is produced by Sun Entertainment for an expected 2015 release.
