Letters From Iwo Jima star Ryo Kase will be joined by Ayumi Ito (Tokyo Tower: Mom And Me And Sometimes Dad), Satoshi Tsumabuki (Dororo), Ayako Fujitani (Gamera 3) and Nao Omori (Midnight Eagle).
Gondry's segment, entitled Hiroko And Akira In Tokyo, goes before the cameras on October 23. The story follows a wannabe movie director (Kase) who arrives in Tokyo with his girlfriend (Ito) only to find that parts of her bones start turning into wood.
Tokyo ! is an omnibus of three segments taking place in the titular metropolis, with Leos Carax (Pola X) and Korea 's Bong Joon-ho (The Host) directing the other two parts.
Bong's segment, Shaking Tokyo, wrapped last month and stars Yu Aoi and Teruyuki Kagawa, while Carax's segment, Merde, starts shooting in November.
The film is a co-production between Japanese independent producer-distributor Bitters End, France 's commes des cinemas and Korea 's Sponge Entertainment. Japanese release is set for mid-late 2008 through Bitters End.
