Armando Iannucci (In The Loop) has been appointed as Baby Cow Productions’ first creative director.

Iannucci joins the indie alongside existing managing directors Steve Coogan and Henry Normal and will immediately to oversee a slate of shows including Gavin & Stacey, The Trip and The Mighty Boosh.

Iannucci has previously worked with Coogan on BBC2’s I’m Alan Partridge and Knowing Me, Knowing You as well as on Foster’s-funded online commission Mid Morning Matters, which launched in November.

Normal said he was delighted to be working with Iannucci. “He has one of the most respected misspelt names in comedy,” he added.

Iannucci said he was looking forward to the new role. “I want to make it the place the next generation of comedy writers and performers head to first; a place where they know they’ll be encouraged and stimulated going forward.”
