Laura Hastings Smith, producer of Un Certain Regard opener Hunger, has a full slate of films in development.
The London-based producer, participating in EFP's Producers on The Move, plans to re-team with Hunger collaborator Robin Gutch for the Warp X project This Little Piggy by Corinna Faith, described as 'a twisted take on consumerism set on a psychotic farm.' The horror film was developed by the Darklight scheme for female horror directors.
Also, she will work with Warp Films on Dominic Hailstone's Say You Love Satan. The project is set in the death metal world. Hastings Smith quips: 'It's like Withnail & I if Withnail really lost it.'
Gutch and Hastings Smith also hope to work on Hunger director Steve McQueen's next film project, although that is just at the idea stage now.
At the second-draft screenplay stage, she has Meloni Poole's debut feature This Charming Man. The project, backed by EM Media, is a coming-of-age tale set in a former coalmining town in Nottinghamshire. Phil Nodding co-wrote it.
She is also working in the early stages with Tony Grisoni on a new script The Fall (the pair previously worked together on Rankin's directorial debut The Lives Of The Saints when she was at Dazed Film & TV). Plot details aren't being revealed at this stage.
Meanwhile, Gutch says Warp X - the low-budget studio founded by Film 4, EM Media, Screen Yorkshire, Optimum Releasing and the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund -- is likely to reveal more info about its new projects in July.
